Small bands get the worst deal in show design: most catalogs are written for 80 winds and then thinned out. The shows on this page were written for bands under 40 winds from the first note. The arranging does the work a big band does by volume: short, layered phrases, percussion that carries the pulse, and sound design that fills the texture a small wind section cannot.
Every show here is for sale as-is, as arrangements for a build-your-own show, or as the start of a partial custom show. Pricing is quoted per program.

Shows written for small bands
Excalibur was written for Batesburg-Leesville High School in 2024, an Arthurian show in 6:27 that moves from Mozart to Purcell to John Powell. Pale Blue Dot, for the same school, is a space show built on Zimmer, Holst, Sara Bareilles and Jacob Collier. Immortal, for Rock Canyon, is a vampire show that pairs Danse Macabre with Olivia Rodrigo's Vampire and Mozart's Dies Irae. In Living Color, for Lugoff-Elgin, builds a whole show out of True Colors, Rhapsody in Blue and Beethoven in Havana.
Four intermediate shows were also written with small-ensemble parts: Gold Rush and Off the Rails, two Western shows; Lunch Atop A Skyscraper, set on a steel beam above 1930s New York; and Dot by Dot, built on Kusama's infinite dots.
How a small-band show is written differently
Every section gets melody. Trumpets do not carry the show alone. Low brass and saxes double in the openers so the sound stays full, and the ballads use the whole band on sustained chords instead of a thin soloist over nothing. The percussion books are written for a battery of six to ten and a front ensemble that might be two keyboards and a synth.
What sound design does for a small band
Each show ships with the sound design files we used in the original performance: bass, pads, effects and sampled voices. For a 30-piece band those files are the difference between sounding like 30 and sounding like 60. The director's guide explains which cues matter and how to balance them with the live sound.
Buying and changing a show
Buy the full show, build your own from the arrangements, or keep two parts and have us write the rest. We will rebalance any show on this page for your exact instrumentation before delivery. Licensing goes through Tresona and is paid by the school. Pricing is quoted per program.
These shows were written for bands under 40 winds. Tell us your numbers and we will say whether a specific show works at your size.
Each show includes a front ensemble book, but the sound design files cover the bass and pad layers, so a band with two keyboard players can still perform them fully.
Yes. We rewrite the balance for your instrumentation as part of the sale. Tell us your numbers and we will say honestly whether a show will work at your size.
No. When you buy a pre-written show, we keep it exclusive to you in your circuit for that season. Custom shows are always exclusive to your program.
