John Mackey's Redline Tango, arranged for marching band by Brighton Barrineau and Trevor Schachner, 1:35 at grade 5 for a large band, written for Dorman High School's 2018 show. This is the technical peak of that season's book: fast tonguing in the trumpets and woodwinds, a percussion part that drives the whole arrangement, and a tango groove that never lets up for the full minute and a half. It was written as a second opener, which is where a piece this demanding belongs, after the band has settled and before the ballad. Redline Tango is for an advanced program with a strong brass section and a battery that can hold a fast ostinato clean. It pairs with Libertango and Felino from the same show. Audio is on this page.
