Astor Piazzolla's Libertango, arranged for marching band by Brighton Barrineau and Trevor Schachner, 1:47 at grade 3 to 4, written as the opener of Dorman High School's 2018 show for a large band. The tango's driving ostinato lives in the low brass and battery while the melody passes between saxophones and trumpets, which keeps the energy constant without asking one section to carry it all. Libertango is one of the most-arranged pieces in the marching activity for a reason: the hook is instant, the harmony is dark enough to feel serious and the tempo moves a band across the field.
