Finlandia
Arrangement preview
The hymn from Jean Sibelius's Finlandia, arranged for marching band by Brighton Barrineau and Trevor Schachner, 2:25 at grade 1 to 2, written as the ballad of Clinton High School's 2018 show for a small band. The hymn tune is one of the great sustained melodies, and the arrangement treats it that way: long phrases, a chorale texture, the battery mostly out, and a build to the final statement that a young band can play with good tone. It is a ballad for a program that wants dignity rather than a pop song, and it suits a show about home, hope or a nation. Sibelius is public domain, so no licence is needed. Finlandia pairs with The Promise of Living and Hopeless Wanderer from the same season. Audio of the full arrangement is on this page. Available on its own or in a build-your-own show.
